We have 2 dogs and 2 cats which makes for lots of fur to vacuum.  Anyway, Felix who is about 14 months old was clearly distress by something on Sunday.  He made all kinds of unpleasant cat noises whenever anyone came near which isn't like him.  He moved very gingerly and was clearly in pain.

Figuring the emergency clinic would likely only hold him until Monday anyway, we brought him to our own vet who we've used many times and very much respect.  It turns out that the little beggar has a blocked penis and his bladder was huge, thus the discomfort.  The solution was to anesthetize and catheterize him.  Well I sure wouldn't want to try to catheterize a conscious cat!

He's come out ok but will need a particular diet so the problem doesn't occur again.  Total cost: $800.00.  Good thing he was free!

Follow up.  He's home now and seems to be doing well.

A little background. I've been allergic to cats for years and yet I now have two.  Felix is MY cat - that is he's more closely attached to me (and oddly, I to him) than I or my friends and family would have believed.  I think the allergy was cured by a naturopath (witch doctor but it workd).

I have people in my family allergic to cats...what is this?  Can you elaborate?

Tova7, check your yellowpages for a naturopath.  It's been a while but I spent 15 min or so holding a carrot in one and and a metal dowel in the other going ooohmmm and communing with the cosmos  .   At least that's what I remember.  Felt right silly I can tell you but it seems to have worked.

On another note, we have to give the little beggar an aniti-biotic pill daily.  Have you every tried making a cat take a pill?  Not easy!

hahahaha...I'll pass, thanks for the info anyway.

Yeah actually I have...three times a day for over a year..long story.  Try dipping it quickly in tuna oil and then holding the cats mouth shut and rubbing its neck once you pop it onto the back of the tongue.

Of course if it has claws this is usually where blood is shed.

Good luck.

Yea. One of ours got a bug.  And passed it to the other 6.  Try Cat/Pill  times 7!

Thanks for the advice about the pills.  It really did help.
